Children's Counselling

“The more healthy relationships a child has, the more likely they will be to recover from trauma and thrive. Relationships are the agent of change, and the most powerful therapy is human love.”
Dr. Bruce D. Perry

Rebecca has provided counselling to children over the past 9 years. Rebecca uses many counselling techniques including person centered, trauma focused, art therapy though mainly focuses on using play therapy when working with children. This makes the counselling process more engaging for the child.

Individual counselling sessions for children ages 5 years and above are 50 minutes in length. Rebecca works in the following therapeutic areas for children:

  • Bullying and school concerns

  • Eating Disorders

  • Family Violence

  • Mental Health including anxiety, depression, and self-harm

  • Parental separation and divorce

  • Trauma including child sexual abuse

The parent or support person will meet with Rebecca during the initial consultation to discuss the reasons for wanting counselling support. In subsequent sessions, unless specified otherwise or the child is very anxious, Rebecca will meet with the child one on one.

The amount of sessions required varies depending on child needs, this will be agreed to collaboratively with the child, parent or support person and Rebecca.

Parent or support person must stay in the building or waiting room when the child is in session. Counselling can be a confronting process for a child and it is extremely important that their parent or support person is available should they need to end the session early or want them to come in for extra support.

**Sessions not available online, unless the child is assessed as suitable following an initial consultation.**
